The Valvadian Earthquake
The Valvadian Earthquake occurred in Valvadia, Chile, on the 22nd of May, 1960. It was the largest recorded earthquake, weighing in at a magnitude of 9.5. It was so strong that, two days later, it awakened the nearby volcano Puyehue, darkening the skies with ash and steam for the next several weeks.
